It’s that time of the year, March Madness. 68 teams have one goal in mind, win the championship. As an athlete, I know this driving passion to achieve that goal. To say that you beat everyone put in front of you is one of the best feelings. Players go to a college to win the championship. Athletic trainers keep players healthy, so they can play to win the championship. Coaches recruit a player for one main reason, to win the championship. Say a school is fortunate enough to win an NCAA championship, there is a plentiful amount of benefits that come from winning. For example, in 2016 the Villanova Wildcats (located right outside of Philadelphia) won the NCAA Championship for the first time since 1985. Winning a championship unites the families and fans of that particular team. A championship is a goal for everybody, whether a conference championship or the NCAA championship. What will a coach and program do to win a championship? Basketball fans know all the hard work these players and coaches go through to fulfill this feeling. The question in today's day in age is how far will a coach and program go to win a championship? We as basketball fans have seen it all in these past couple years. Whether it’s Louisville having to vacate their 2013 National Championship for their controversial sex scandal, the recent reports from Yahoo Sports showing that around 30 current and former players got paid hundreds of thousands of dollars, or New York Times reporting “two coaches had been part of a scheme to funnel money from the university’s apparel partner, Adidas.” Coaches and programs are breaking NCAA rules and violations to the point where the FBI has gotten involved, and it is not a surprise when you hear about a program breaking rules.
