Workplace Bullying

Never allow yourself to be made a victim.
Except no one’s definition of your life, but define yourself. “
This quote of Tim Fields, a British anti-bullying activist, forms the basis of todays anti bullying campaign. Only when one is aware, not only of the workplace situation but also his rights and judicial power granted to him by the Australian Government, that he can stand up against bullying. He can speak up not only for himself but also lend out the same to others who cannot stand up or speak up for themselves. This campaign is an awareness programme directed towards making employees AWARE and helping them SPEAK UP.

In addition workplace bullying is not effectively addressed under current Australian legislation. Currently the state employers have a duty of care to provide a safe work environment for employees. This includes a workplace free of bullying and other forms of harassment. However, current legislation does not fully recognise workplace bullying. Action has been taken to put workplace bullying in political agenda by union and various associations. Until legislation is changed to make workplace bullying illegal, the costs associated with it will continue to rise, governments will be pressure to implement changes, and unions will be called on to assist members at work and before industrial tribunals.
The above discussions reveal the severity of the issue. Workplace bullying a recognised practice still has many working tenaciously to define it - not an easy task due to the often-insidious nature of the behaviour. There are four key elements to workplace bullying:

The campaign would involve making young employees aware of their rights and providing them the confidence to speak up whenever they face any workplace-bullying situation. This campaign aims to reach out both physically and virtually, to all organisations along with the use of social media, making everyone aware. When victims of bullying realise that organisation, such as ours exist, they would open up and feel more confident to share their situation.
We are also launching a website where people can anonymously leave account of their traumatic experiences and we can provide them support – both legal and emotional to help them cope with the situation and also this would give them the confidence to stand up against the bullies.
This campaign would bring the issue to light and provide the required confidence to the victims to speak up against their bullies. Also the employers who may not be always be aware of the prevailing situations at their office, would become more vigilant, thereby leading to a better place to work for
