Challenges are what makes life interesting; overcoming them is what makes life meaningful. “A smooth sea never made a skillful sailor.” As I stepped out the door, slowly and resentfully I walked down the staircase, then suddenly turned to look at the house which I grew up in. A part of me was agitated to see the new place I was going to to further my education and another part was discouraged to leave my friends, an intimate surrounding and most importantly, remembering that I was going to be away from my family when I have settled after a month. My family has always been an important part of my life. I never knew how important they were till we were on the journey to Halifax. Character: a person 's true character is who they are when they are placed in a difficult situation, and the decisions they make at that point that grants them respect from their followers. Competence: this is the condition of being capable or qualified. As a good leader you have to know your position, this is because without knowing how to function in your position you cannot instruct or direct your followers. Thirdly compassion: a leader needs compassion, which is also reasoning with people when they make mistakes. By doing so, you gain trust from the followers knowing that you care. A great leader needs courage : this is the quality of mind and spirit that enables a person to go through a difficult situation with bravery. During my prefectorial position, It was hard for me to instruct some people because I felt we were too close but it took courage and boldness and most times when I spoke to them I gained respect and this is what courage brings. Positivity: every leader must have a goal. One of my goals as a leader was to represent my school in different competitions in the best way I can. To achieve my goals I needed dedication and with this I and other prefects organized competitions with different schools in sports, debates e.t.c. Humility: a good leader has to be humble, not proud or arrogant. When a leader has pride, they feel no one has the right to contribute towards a decision, and this will not improve the followers or make them look up to the leader since their opinion does not
