Technology has improved many aspects of human civilization. A major part of this improvement has been the introduction of various tools to improve the quality of life of individuals. An area of life that has seen a surge of tool implementation has been education. With the development of the internet and sensor applications, the technology we have at hand can be used to develop various applications suited to help improve learning more in less time. For a brief background, I will talk about the early applications of technology and how it was received early on. This is to gain an understanding on what the initial concept of technology aided education looked like. Then, I will go into how those ideas translated into modern day. Often times the research ended up finding that technology aided teaching helped with student performance in different metrics. Most notably, there was a significant rise in standardized test and researcher produced tests. This ranged different subjects and various age groups from elementary students to college and was shown to be quite effective. Another metric used to show that technology was indeed helpful to learn was a study that showed that it took students less time to learn with computer based instruction that their peers. Technology has the ability to teach students more and faster and there are few consequences in active educational teaching. Teachers also took note on improvements seen in students with 62% of teachers saying notable improvements in learning from students. This of course was when learning technologies were still being developed and educators were learning what works and does not. Another way that technology was shown to help early on was the positive attitudes and enthusiasm shown in the class. Both teachers and students agreed that technology helps students get engaged with learning when technology aide is properly implemented. Motivation is a key element to learning and plays a key role in helping accelerate the learning process. A potential reason for this excitement comes from the curiosity of learning to use technology. Technology does well mainly with feedback and vast amount of information when properly used. This of course can be a problem when improperly used. The International Society for Technology in Education recognizes this and as such is in 2007 added digital competency to the list of standards to be an educator. There are many ways that educators can fail to use technology. For example, repetition as shown before was show to be ineffective at helping kids learn and as such technology could be improperly implemented to act in such a way when teaching. Another way technology can be misused is a lack of competency of the educator. Teacher training is often required when implementing technology into a school’s curriculum and that leads to another problem. Funding is a problem both when trying to teach educators how to use technology and buying the technology as well. While it is great to write a program to help students learn on iPads it is pointless when schools cannot afford to get them for students. Technology needs to be properly used when introduced to teaching methods. This includes proper training, funding, and most importantly proper
