Effective Interpersonal Communication Reflection

As shown above, effective interpersonal communications play a major role in my chosen professional field. One of the skills and job responsibilities that I feel will be relatively easy for me will be to demonstrate cultural knowledge. Belonging to several minority identities has given me first hand experience in what it is like to be stereotyped. I would definitely be sensitive to these issues in dealing with my students and parents, as well as other organization members. Likewise, I feel it would be easy for me to engage in productive conversation with students about their future careers. When I get the opportunity to work with incoming students, I will be fresh out of school as well; this will give me a contemporary touch vs. someone who has been in this profession for a long time. My experiences are likely relevant to what those students will be going through during their higher education journey. In like manner, I would be highly effective at cooperating with other departments within my chosen institution. My vast work experience has prepared me in this respect; I have always taken pride in being a reliable team player and a trusted contributor to the groups I have had the privilege to be a part of. I believe these are factors that come into play whenever any individual starts a new career; there is always a learning curve, but it is possible to overcome these obstacles with careful attention and dedication. Some of these areas would be the acquiring of comprehensive knowledge of undergraduate education, understanding of academic practices, requisites, procedures and choices, familiarity with current school and general advising movements, and knowledge of campus resources. Again these are areas that will be mastered with proper training and preparation; I will definitely be willing to put the time and effort needed to conquer the learning
