My Sophomo Year High School Life Essay

Improved Essays
In my seventeen years of living I have encountered many obstacles, but I have obviously overcome them because I am writing this essay. I’d have to say that my Sophomore Year of high school was one of the worst years I have ever had so far. I went in with high hopes and big dreams and I came out even sadder and filled with dread. As Freshman Year ended, I made a list of goals I would like to achieve in my Sophomore Year. A few things I jotted down were; the cliche fall in love, learn what happiness is, be happy, make friends, be myself, and to learn who I am. I can honestly say that I reached none of those goals and I probably won’t for a long time. The first month of school I decided to join the volleyball team because it was something that I loved doing and despite the fact that I was filled with dread the entire time of tryouts, I made that time. I thought to myself, “this is my year for sure, I’m gonna love myself.” Boy was I wrong. Three weeks into the school year my sister moved to Nebraska to be with her husband because he was stationed there. I can't say that where everything started to go down hill, but it was a start. A week had passed since my sister left and my mom found out that my dad was cheating on her for five years with a lady in Canada. I had to listen to them fight and argue alone, it …show more content…
I thought it was pretty stupid of him to stay, I was horrible to him. He’d sit by me in every class we had together and he’d talk the whole time without me saying a word, eventually I started talking to him and eventually he became one of my best friends. He taught me how to be happy. He taught me how to laugh. I hated him. He had this perfect family, who talked to each other, who hugged each other, who hanged out with each other, anything a normal family would do really. Then he told me how he really felt, he said that at the end of the day he felt like no one was there for

For the past year, I could only provide an indefinite answer to a frequently asked question, How was your freshman year? In fact, those of us who experienced our freshman year could be addressed as “college veterans” will never initiate a conversation with regard to the past year. Perhaps they consider that the freshman year was not as consummate as they initially planned. I cannot judge my first year in college was successful or frustrating, but I feel I benefited from the meritorious experiences and practical knowledge gained from my college life. In my opinion, no matter what goals one wishes to achieve in college, whether its grade, love, health, or sense of accomplishment, one has to be prepared for both failures and…

The Path to a Higher Education “Without education, you are not going anywhere in this world” (Malcolm X). In both Frederick Douglass’ article “Learning to Read” and in Malcolm X’s article “A Homemade Education” they discuss the challenges and obstacles that they had to overcome. Frederick Douglass was a man that was born in the horrors of slavery and later became a famous abolitionist speaker in the north. Malcolm X may not have been a man born into slavery, but he was still treated poorly because of his race. X later became a well-known leader during the Civil Rights Movement.…

A dilemma that I faced, and still am facing is simply the decision about what I want to do with my life after my high school career. In my freshman year of high school my goal was simply to get through the year in one piece. I was forced to conform to my new environment and all the strict rules that came along with it. Along with that it was the sudden transition from being the "big dogs" as eighth graders at my middle school to being "fresh-meat" in my first year high school. With so much attention placed on me as a freshman like on the varsity basketball team, where I was constantly forced to prove my worth to the coach and the players, to stepping out of my comfort zone and performing in a mandatory play for the rest of the the school as…

Writing was not a subject that held my interest in high school. Throughout the last twelve years I have found myself having to write letters, proposals, and business correspondence for my employers. I would complete the assignment and move on to the next task. Deciding to further my education I enrolled in Daytona State College and my first class was your ENC 1101. I have seen a change in my pre-class writing style; I have honed my skills, and the different techniques I have learned while taking this course have only improved my writing style.…

As my high school career is winding down, I take time to reflect on the last four years of my life. I think of how my attitude and personality has changed since the beginning of freshman year. I think of all the people I met and how they impacted my life. I think of the fun times, but also the hardships I endured. Most importantly, I think of what I learned-in my worst of times, when nothing has gone my way, God has a plan.…

My second year of high school was difficult for me as I had taken on my first AP class and I had learned that my aunt had been diagnosed with cancer. That year took a toll on my grades, overall GPA, and class ranking, which all went down because I focused all of my attention solely on my one AP class. I would also be constantly worried about my aunt and I would catch myself drifting off just thinking about her, hoping that she was okay. Junior year, I was determined to obtain a higher GPA and a better class ranking, and as a result I would skip out on family events when I had homework to do…

Since the first day, time has been flying really fast. Starting a fresh new day, meeting the same teachers and same old friends, I still cannot imagine that I am now a senior! In my senior year, there will definitely be a lot of challenges and obstacles for me to conquer, but I believe that as long as I do everything step by step, I can beat down the difficulties in this senior year. When I was in junior year, I often heard last year’s seniors told me how hard is it to come up with a senior project topic, and they kept on reminding me to start thinking of my topic and finding my mentors. Luckily, I had research method class last year, so I knew how to do my APA style references and I had many presentations experiences last year.…

Three years elapsed, and with those years gone, so were my hardships. The start of my fourth year marked the turning point for me and what made my final year in high school a memorable one. Unlike the years prior where my opinion didn’t matter, my senior year was when I was finally recognized and praised for my abilities. I felt like I was an asset to the team rather than someone who was just taking up space. I was given first priority when the time had come to pick numbers.…

The Life of a Teenager Lazy, irresponsible, and immature, that is how most people would say defines a common day teenager. What causes this stereotype? Not all people in their teenage years act completely recklessly. If a teenager was asked if they thought they were unproductive, forgetful, and premature, most would say no, especially those involved in school, sports, and whatever other activities. School, for students who put in effort, is stressful and tiring.…
