As a college student, I have will experience many new experiences that I have never encountered before in my life. From the day we first set foot into college, we being our transition from adolescence to adults. College requires students to become more independent and responsible in our decisions and actions. Each student is responsible for their own education and no longer have their parents to rely on and hold their hand. This type of freedom could be seen as a good or bad thing depending on the choices a person makes. There are many hardships we need to face as students and how we handle these challenges is important. Having a good GPA is pretty important and can impact employment for many jobs and internships. In order to keep this GPA up, we students must dedicate hours towards studying, attending lectures and doing homework. I often experience that at times, lectures are rushed and content is not explained in detail. This will cause students to be dragged to Si session, which almost translates to another class for the day. Although students have time between the day without a class, it often needs to be used for academics, especially for more rigorous majors. For my major in Chemical Engineering, I often find myself struggling towards the end of the week because most of my assignments are due friday. Engineering takes up a lot of time and effort due to the amount of work we receive in mathematics and programming. Although Engineers do not necessarily stay in College past 4 years as compared to others that attend Grad School or Med School, they often have enough work comparable to 5 or 6 years condensed into 4 years. I knew Chemical Engineering would be difficult and a tough nut to crack, but I did not realise that Chemical Engineering require so much of my time that I need to spend most of my week doing homework. Since Chemical engineering requires time to understand chemical processes and many hours of practice problems to understand concepts, I often feel as though I am overwhelmed by the workload and stressed out. Compared to High …show more content…
Most of the time it involves schoolwork, such as exams or homework. As an Engineer I find myself comparing the workload I receive with my friends and compared to most of them I receive almost twice the amount of work. This is incredibly frustrating as I see my friend enjoying college life and engaging in various events, while i 'm stuck in my dorm friday night doing homework due at midnight. On average I sleep around 5 hours a day and will often sleep past midnight. The average amount of sleep in order to maintain good mental and physical health is from 7 to 8 hours of sleep. Compared to others, I am often extremely tired throughout the day and more irritable. My sleep deprivation also impacted my studies in a negative way since I am unable to concentrate and properly retain my focus. Also as people get less and less sleep, the amygdala can become more sensitive and cause people to become more irritable. This irritability can lead to more frustration and stress. Sleep is seen as crucial since it is believed that our minds need time to become less active and allow the body to rest. This idea seems to make sense to me since my mind is often full of thoughts and working hard all day.Through research in sleep, students can apply certain methods to allow a person to sleep better. Such things include exercise, following a sleep pattern, and sleeping when the body is ready to sleep. What I have

Students in high schools had teachers instructing and advising them on what, how, and when to do their schoolwork; however, in university students have the freedom and each one is responsible for him/her self. Although majority of students enjoy this lack of restrictions at first, but several feel overwhelmed, confused, and find difficulties in making decisions, taking responsibilities, and finishing all the work they were assigned with. As a running start student I could talk about how my experience at community college helped prepare me to transfer to a four year university, but the lessons I learned there were primarily limited to academics. Sure, I learned how to be successful in a college class room, that online classes don’t fit my learning style, and going to Hong Kong for two weeks in the middle of the quarter will significantly lower a GPA. (I eventually retook the classes from that quarter.)…
