But there are a couple obvious reasons. The first victim in the Chains music video was one almost all of America heard about, Trayvon Martin. Trayvon Martin,17, was fatally shot on the night of February 26, 2012 by George Zimmerman, 28, in Sanford Florida. He was walking outside of his step-mother’s subdivision when Zimmerman shot the unarmed teen. There was a verbal altercation between the two men, and Zimmerman said he felt threatened by Martin, so he shot his with his firearm. This caused a ton of controversy in America. Some said Zimmerman was very wrong, others defended him. He got no jail time for his actions. The third fourth victim in the Chains video is Marlon Brown, 38, also a Florida man was chased down by two police cars after a minor seat belt violation, on May 8th, 2013. Afterwards, police tried getting him again, car 1,followed police procedure. Police car 2, driven by JP Harais, went around car 1, accelerated their speed and hit Brown full on, pinning him under the police car. That we should have separate bathrooms, different schools, even different sides of town. Some people don’t want their kids around other races or ethnicities. Now, why, would that be right? We live in America which is supposed to be a free country. Free for religion, political views, cultures, and races. That’s why a lot of people come to America. Because they can be themselves. It’s nice to have variety of different skin tones, and ethnic cultures. It’s nice to learn about those things, and have our kids grow up with an open and kind heart towards different races.
The Lens chosen was a cultural lens, because this is all surrounded by our culture. Our culture is what choses how to react to this kind of stuff and deal with stuff, such as racism. We’ve always had problems with racism in America as long as anyone can remember, back in the day there were slaves that got abused physically, mentally, and emotionally. Now a days, even though there isn’t slavery there is still racism, and in a way, it’s just as bad if not worse. People are now getting shot, kids are getting hurt, riots are happening all over in cities, and the only ones to blame is the culture we live
