Chains By Madam Lockton Analysis

The book “Chains” was a very interesting story with a lot of dialogue in it. Chains was written in 3rd person limited. The narrator was following Isabel and her significant story. SOme of the advantages of third person limited was you could now what Isabel was thinking throughout the story and what she was planning to do next. The disadvantages in the book was the reader did not know how Curzon was doing when he was in prison. Or what Madam was planning next to do for Isabel or what she was thinking of doing with Isabel when she was in court for attacking Madem.

The conflict in the story was character vs character in which the situation was Isabel vs Madam Lockton. Throughout the entire book Madam Lockton had tried to make Isabel's like a living hell. It was all the events starting off with separating Isabel from her sister Ruth. Then Madam decided to send Ruth away because she thought that Ruth had the Devil in her and because she wanted to make Isabel angry and mad. In the book the reader can instantly tell that Madam Lockton is the Antagonist and Isabel is the Protagonist.

One of the meanings was reach for the stars. The other meaning was a secret code that allowed her access to Colonel Regan. THe first meaning reach to the stars was a phrase which represented how the slaves were struggling to get their freedom. This also relates to the colonies at the time because the colonies were ready for independence so they were fighting Great Britain for that independence. The other meaning was important because on page 137 Isabel screams it and she was allowed access into the building.

Overall this book was quite a great experience to read even though the book was historical fiction.
