He believed in non-violence because when he was young his grandmother would often speak to him about the importance of religion and how to trust God, that there is good in life if he believes. Cesar became influenced by reading about St. Francis and Gandhi, both of these men helped him set a good example by adopting their philosophy on non-violence . So as a union organizer, Cesar Chavez would develop his plans based on his beliefs and the injustices suffered by the poor in order to help the minority group by addressing the problem and fighting for them. Chavez said, “Using violence would make his movement fail, and that violence never solves any problems” . Cesar Chavez viewed his civil rights issues as not just another movement, but a movement to change the conditions of human life. He followed the teachings of Gandhi, who helped India obtain their independence from England through nonviolent actions. There was a case where landowners of a grape field threatened Cesar Chavez to not disturb their working practices against the workers, so he would immediately call a boycott on grapes throughout the whole country which became a great success because through this he gained support from various organizations and people. As a Mexican-American, he would become a noticeable union leader and labor organizer who was toughened by his early years as a migrant worker who founded the National Farm Workers Association in 1962 . A major reason that led to the success of his civil rights movement was the fact that he had perseverant hope and was very confident that whatever he planned was going to work for the better of the people. He lived by the saying "Si Se Puede" (“Yes we can" or "It can be done") ,he believed that his actions and plans were going to work to overcome the mistreatment of his people and all minority groups. Cesar’s life inspired and empowered the Latino community, Cesar Chavez was a Nelson Mandela, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr or Mahatma Gandhi. He elevated the aspirations of an entire group of people and at the same time, he would be admired by all races, nationalities, all ages, men, and women. He would help all of the minorities stand tall with dignity and to unite against economic injustice, racial, sexual and anti-immigrant discrimination. The roots of Cesar Chavez’s organization would be deeply embedded in the Latino community and the class struggle of all minorities in America
