Librado Chavez and Juana Chavez, he was the second child from five children. They had a little farm and a country store. When the Great Depression and years of drought many left the land. They had moved to California, due to the fact they had lost their farm and their store 1937. Cesar had attended 38 schools and stopped when he was done with 8th grade.
They had to be moving from farm to farm.
He married his high school sweetheart, Helen Favela, in Delano. They moved to San
Francisco and their first child was born. Over the years they had seven children. Cesar met a local priest in San Jose, Father Donnell McDonnell. He introduced him to the writings of
St. Francis and
