Cesar began the boycott against grape growers in September 1965. They were fighting against the exploitation of farm workers. This lasted around 5 years and made a huge impact on grape growers' lives. The boycott was not only led by the NFWA but also the AWOC (A Filipino-American labor group). This strike became a nationwide boycott. “The boycott drew widespread support, thanks to the highly visible campaign headed by Chavez” (Union). As you can see, this boycott caught many people's attention, thanks to the Cesar Chavez leadership. He worked hard on convincing many people to join him; he even made sacrifices like his 25-day hunger strike, and the 340-mile trip from Dealino to Sacramento. To add up, Cesar not only did boycotts and marches, but he also started an organization to help all farm workers called the National Farm Workers Association (NFWA). Chavez used all the money that he saved up to start this organization. He did not only help Mexican farm workers with this organization but also African Americans, Mexican Americans, Filipinos and white Americans.
