“One of the heroic figures [Cesar Chavez] of our times.” A quote from senator Robert F. Kennedy talking about Cesar Chavez, who started the strikes for better pay for farm workers (Alarcon). Cesar Chavez was a great man that gave U.S. farmworkers a better life. Cesar Chavez was born March 31st, 1927 in Yuma Arizona. At around this time it was the end of the great depression, and Chavez’s mother and father, Juana and Librade, had lost their farm. They then moved to California like many others to become migrant farm workers. The work was hard and had little pay, so they worked, traveling around the state, making Cesar go to 37 schools in total. One accomplishment is that of the Delano Grape Strike. In this strike, they marched a total of 300 miles, proclaiming that they needed better wages and good living/working conditions. Another one of his many accomplishments is that of a fast that lasted 30 days, he then did another one for about the same time, and another one, this time starting a chain of fasts from celebrities.
