Cervical cancer is a long process that is initiated when one cell, organ, or tissue becomes damaged or altered in a way that causes it to break free. A gene known as proto-oncogene is responsible for making cells divide, once there is a change on this gene this lead proto-oncogenes to oncogenes resulting in division of cells in the absence of a proper signals (Wilbur, 2009). There is a gene called tumour suppressor gene that protects a cell from one step on the path to cancer. When this gene mutates to cause a loss or reduction in its function, the cell can progress to cancer, usually in combination with other genetic changes. The loss of these genes may be
