Indian Americans women have higher rates of cervical cancer compared with all other races in the United States. Cervical cancer is a malignant tumor of the cervix. If the cancer is not treated it can spread deeply though the cervix and can be fatal.

Prevention/treatment strategies for the degenerative disease
One prevention/ treatment strategy for cervical cancer is increasing Pap and HPV screening. Pap screening, detects cancer. It is recommended to get regular Pap smear after the age of twenty-one. Following up on abnormal Pap smears is also important. Getting the HPV vaccine can also help prevent cervical cancer.
