This study used both quantitative and qualitative procedures. Using both quantitative and qualitative methods helped provide a profuse, more absolute illustration of secondary traumatic stress surrounding certified nurse-midwives. In this specific mixed method study, a convergent design was used meaning that quantitative and qualitative data were collected at the same time with equal priority hence the QUAL + QUAN. Interpretation of how the intervention was carried out was done through statistical methods as well as through content analysis of the qualitative data on the actual experiences of the certified nurse-midwives. The use of questionnaires to obtain quantitative and qualitative information was suitable given the nature of the question
