ABSTRACT: This paper intends to show the significance, and importance of CEAB’s graduate attributes. These attributes can help save time, money, lives and way more. Taking an overlook of the disaster caused by the Hyatt Regency Hotel walkway collapse will substantiate the importance of these attributes, and how their use could have deterred such catastrophe. This paper also intends to show how engineers like myself, can develop aptitude for these attributes throughout their years of studying and beyond.

When engineers slightly loose such perspective, they risk yielding a negative impact to themselves, and to the society as a whole. A prominent example of such impact can be recognized in the case of the Hyatt Regency Hotel walkway collapse were 114 people lost their lives, and another 180 were injured (Luth 1). This catastrophe could have been easily deterred if the engineers working on the project were competent in the CEAB’s twelve graduate attributes. The Hyatt Regency Hotel disaster: On July 17, 1981, Kansas City was devastated by the news of the collapse of two walkways in the Hyatt Regency Hotel after just one year of the grand opening. The walkways were located on the second and forth floor right above each other. Three pairs of hangers suspended from roof trusses supported both walkways. The collapse occurred during a tea dance that the hotel hosted on a weekly basis, both walkways were occupied with
