“Autumn in Central Park”
On March 26, 2017, my husband and I were strolling through the town of Gatlinburg, TN when we came upon the Masters Edition’s Fine Art Gallery. We were taking in all the fine art when a piece caught my eye. The piece did not have a date on it, but was titled “Autumn in Central Park” by Rod Chase. It was created using the medium, Acrylic on canvas. The artwork and detail put into this piece was breathtaking. I knew immediately it had to be New York as the twin towers were shown towering right up to the clouds.
The focal point of the piece was this gorgeous bridge in the park. It was surrounded by the red, yellow, and orange colors of fall on the leaves of the trees and a little river below. The bridge was parallel on both sides giving direction for the eyes to follow, as if one was standing on the edge of the bank, looking down it. The yellow of the leaves shine bright around the center of the bridge, making this the focal point of the painting. The trees lean slightly toward the focal point giving it an implied line for the eye to follow back to the

The artist wanted one to feel as if they were in Central Park, looking at it for themselves. It also sets the tone for the negative shape, below the bridge, of the river and the light shining beneath to add to the beauty foreseen. The trees and flowers on the bridge provide the horizon of the painting and the items beyond are painted in more grey tones to provide more depth for the painting, while not taking away from the focal point and all its beauty. There appears to be a mansion or a fancy hotel, along with the twin towers above the horizon of the piece. The twin towers are lined up with the rails of the bridge using an implied line to take your focus back down to it. The clouds appear to get closer to the ground in the distance, giving the painting space, and making the viewer feel as though that is as far as the naked eye could

The use of light defines the architecture of the bridge. The back of the bridge is quite hazy as it is out of focus. It makes the viewer ponder what is deeper in the background. There is a sepia tone in the image and the subject matter being the bridge highlights the cars driving by as they intrigue the audience. The blur of the car in the foreground suggest this photograph was taken with the purpose to capture movement.…

While travelling across New York Harbor herring gulls and great black-backed gulls were seen. Three cormorants were observed sitting on wooden pylons near the dock. Once in Central Park, I saw numerous pin oak trees, a few white oak, chestnut oak and many cherry trees displaying their white-pink blossoms. Sensitive fern, arrow wood, common milkweed, winged sumac, garlic mustard, and honeysuckle were all observed. Common bird species such as the pigeon, European starling and house sparrows were seen most often.…

Central Park painted by Adolf Dehn in 1942 using watercolor on paper, light colors in the front of the painting caught my eye when I was examining the photos. Adolf Dehn uses light colors such as a light green and people strolling through the park to portray the light side of New York City which is in the back of the painting with dark and grey colors with cloudy skies. In the center of the painting Dehn uses a white and light green mixture, suggesting the calmness of the painting. There are many trees in the park and two ladies in the center of the stage with a baby carriage, with a man to their right, and three more person in the far back on the hill. Your eye catches the light color in central park and how few people there are in the park,…

To quickly recount Henri Cartier-Bresson’s photograph, FRANCE Paris 1952, we will commence with the fact that it is black-and-white. Cartier-Bresson preferred to capture photographs in gray scale. It included many shades of gray. The background to the photograph consisted of a gloomy gray sky, the dark black frame of the tower, and a couple walking with wrapped in each other’s arms in the distance. The couple seems to symbolize the love that can be seen in the Eiffel Tower.…

As the lunch-hour fades to afternoon, Zuccotti Park is claimed by yet another class of user: the tourist. Located around the corner from the September 11 Memorial Plaza, Zuccotti Park serves as a place of consolidation. Large, guided groups are particularly likely to use the park as a staging area. Because many of these groups are coming to or from the Memorial Plaza, Zuccotti Park can seem lopsided in the afternoon. The western side of the park hosts much activity, while the eastern edge abutting Broadway is less occupied.…

Once out of the Golden Line Metro heading down the dark stair case, the noise starts to increase and a busy walkway opens before our eyes. The clacking of women’s heels, the hushed conversations of business men, the different languages being spokes, suite cases being rolled on the tiled ground, and people embracing each other for the first times in years, make up Union Station. Being one of Los Angeles’ central points, it unites people and takes them on new adventures daily. Now on its 75th anniversary, Union Station is looking into the future planning on expanding and growing, by still keeping its old time charm. Sophonisba Anguissola created her genre painting titled The Chess Game in 1555, in the midst of the Last Italian War. Presently located in Poland’s National Museum, this painting is frequently regarded as Anguissola’s finest creation. Profound beauty and technical skill doubtlessly pervade this piece, but there is a critical, albeit subtle, motif of women being empowered and learning to empower one and other. Spatially and aesthetically, this painting has no obvious focal point. Lucia’s red garments draw attention to her, though her lack of emotion relative to her sisters leaves her visage moderately muted.…

During our findings, we found that out of 10 people, 70% were male this equates to a ratio 7:3 men to women. This could be down to the fact that the park is more aimed at theme park rides. Generally, this is more enjoyed by males than females. Another reason may be why I gained these results could be down to the fact of where I was when I observed a number of people walking by at the given time.…

Monet 's collection of Japanese woodblock prints seems almost out of place, but upon entering the gardens you see expounding Japanese influence. One can plainly see that the use of a single color in many shades and the lack of overt, or obvious, detail in some rooms was, in and of itself, a reference to the art of the Edo period and Ukiyo-e artists. While his gardens were their own floating worlds, the ponds and architecture suggests a way to move beyond our limited perspective and to be a place of quiet meditation. The bridge over the water garden quietly leads us to forget our troubles of this world and walk in elevation through a place of wonder; the mind is set at ease as we walk through Monet 's idealized world. Perhaps even the mirrored effect of the water suggests bringing Monet 's idea of heaven down to earth, and the bridge being a means to achieve interaction between the…
