On March 26, 2017, my husband and I were strolling through the town of Gatlinburg, TN when we came upon the Masters Edition’s Fine Art Gallery. We were taking in all the fine art when a piece caught my eye. The piece did not have a date on it, but was titled “Autumn in Central Park” by Rod Chase. It was created using the medium, Acrylic on canvas. The artwork and detail put into this piece was breathtaking. I knew immediately it had to be New York as the twin towers were shown towering right up to the clouds.
The focal point of the piece was this gorgeous bridge in the park. It was surrounded by the red, yellow, and orange colors of fall on the leaves of the trees and a little river below. The bridge was parallel on both sides giving direction for the eyes to follow, as if one was standing on the edge of the bank, looking down it. The yellow of the leaves shine bright around the center of the bridge, making this the focal point of the painting. The artist wanted one to feel as if they were in Central Park, looking at it for themselves. It also sets the tone for the negative shape, below the bridge, of the river and the light shining beneath to add to the beauty foreseen. The trees and flowers on the bridge provide the horizon of the painting and the items beyond are painted in more grey tones to provide more depth for the painting, while not taking away from the focal point and all its beauty. There appears to be a mansion or a fancy hotel, along with the twin towers above the horizon of the piece. The twin towers are lined up with the rails of the bridge using an implied line to take your focus back down to it. The clouds appear to get closer to the ground in the distance, giving the painting space, and making the viewer feel as though that is as far as the naked eye could
