Central Italy Earthquake

In late August, central Italy was hit with a destructive earthquake. The earthquake killed more than 300 people. Buildings are in rubble with people trapped in them. The country’s primary goal is to rescue its people, but the country will soon be contemplating the restoration areas that were struck as well as future precautions. In addition, this is an area of the country already hit by severe economic recession. The disaster is no surprise, as Italy is prone to earthquakes. Since the quakes are shallow and because many of the local towns and cities contain vulnerable buildings, strong shaking from these quakes has the potential to inflict major damage and loss of life in urban areas.
