Bivaute Test: What Is The Central Independent Variable?

Great Essays
Aside from the general issue regarding survey data and their inability to accurately represent reality, there are no overtly obvious issues regarding the measurement or operationalization of this variable. The central independent variable I chose was number of group memberships. The variable was measured by simply asking respondents for the number of groups that they belonged to. The unit of analysis in individuals, and the variable is continuous. The mean is 0.833, indicating that the number of memberships is skewed toward zero, with the mean not quite reaching one full group membership. The standard deviation is 1.38. There are a total of 226 responses missing, causing a slight issue. In addition, one respondent reported that she belonged …show more content…
The data does not differentiate between types of group, nor does it really offer a clear indication of what a group is. Thus, what a group is may differ from person to person. In addition, the self-report nature of the variable can be a cause for concern.
Bivariate Test Since the dependent variable in this test is continuous and the independent variable is ordinal, the most appropriate bivariate test is an ANOVA test. For this test, the number of organizations that a group belonged to was lowered to a maximum of four, simply because there were so few responses of five or above. The results of the test are presented in Table 1

However it should be noted that the variable for internal efficacy is skewed heavily to the lower end, and additional categories had sample sizes that were quite small. Thus far, there does not seem to be any statistical support for either hypotheses.

Theoretical construct Based upon analysis of previous research, it is evident that research into compassion is less prevalent than compassion fatigue (Kagen, 2014). According to Gilbert (2005), compassion can be divided into two parts: 1) a feeling of deep sympathy and sorrow for another who is stricken by misfortune and 2) a strong desire to help stop the suffering. The desire to help stop the suffering is what separates compassion from empathy. A plethora of research has identified that compassion is reduced when a person is continuously exposed to compassion inducing stimuli, known as compassion fatigue (Conrada & Kellar-Guentherb, 2006).…

Surveys are a great tool to use to gain knowledge about what people with different kinds of demographic backgrounds may want from, feel towards, or think about a specific topic. It can allow one to decipher what interests certain demographics of people may have and therefore lead to the discovery of one’s target market. Psychographics tell a surveyor what a person thinks or feels about that specific topic. Psychographics are equally as important as demographics. This is because although psychographics are used to determine how a population feels towards a certain topic, demographics are used to learn exactly what population that is.…

A potential threat to the internal validity of my assigned research study is maturation because participants in the non-Snoezelen study were much older than other participants in the study with an age gap of up to 20 years. Maturation also threats internal validity in the sense that Snoezelen participants had been living in the residential aged care facility for a longer period of time compared to the non-Snoezelen group (Bauer et al., 2015). Participants who have been living in the residential facility longer are less likely to experience stress or anxiety in comparison to newer residents of the aged care facility. Statistical regression toward the mean is another potential threat to the interval validity of the study because the selected…
