I think the central idea of this story is the family was excited about going to Texas, but as they left they were upset and started realizing they were upset about leaving. First, Mina got upset when she realized she was not gonna see the people she lived w again. Christine says, “Mina, I am sorry you are leaving.” Christine turned in the soft feather bed to face her. “This room will seem so quiet without you.” Mina wished Christine had not said that. Now she was so not sure she wanted to leave”. She soon realized that she did not wanna leave as bad as she thought she did. Second, as they were leaving they were upset. “The tears streamed down Mina’s cheeks as the wagon rolled out of Wehrstedt, and Papa’s arm tightened around her shoulders.”
