Central High School Should Start Later Essay

Most schools are starting to make school hours start a little too early and it’s starting to cause problems. It has been shown that students’ behaviors are starting to change a lot since the change of school hours. Although some may prefer getting up early, Central High School should push the school hours back because it would reduce absences/tardies, it would improve students’ grades, and it would cause less behavior issues.
Lots of people are not morning people, implying that they don’t like waking up early. With that being said, some students move slow when they wake up in the morning for school which causes them to be late. “students who start school one hour later have 1.3 fewer absences than the typical student—a reduction of about 25 percent” (Finley). This shows that when the times were actually pushed back, the students actually started making it to school on time. If the students could start school a little bit later, their grades could

According to the National Sleep Foundation, “Young people who do not get enough sleep night after night carry a significant risk of drowsy driving ; emotional and behavioral problems such as irritability, depression, poor impulse control and violence. Like I once said that most people are not morning people, so in the morning when they wake up they are grumpy. People being grumpy can lead to them being mean to others for no apparent reason. When this happens, victims usually let it go, but there are always some that take it the wrong way. Although, some people may prefer having more sleep and performing better at school, they’re maybe some morning people that love to wake up super early for school and function well in class.
