It’s becoming faster paced and is based around wearing out your opponent. Coach Chip Kelly of the Philadelphia Eagles, and former National Champion with the Oregon Ducks, invented what is known today as West Coast style football(3). This West Coast style offense incorporates much diversification involving power run, pocket passing, and option run(3). The key trait in this offense is that they never huddle(3). The quarterback shouts out the play to the various players, and they run it as fast as they can(3). One way that the Sabers could improve is by implementing some of Chip Kelly’s West Coast style schemes. Although Chip Kelly is known for his offensive excellence, he has been known to create hard-nosed, unpredictable defenses as well. He runs a base 4-3 defense, but also runs a 3-4, and a 5-2(3). By having multiple defenses it confuses opposing offenses, and does not let them dictate the game to you. As a result, the Sabers on average have fifteen varsity players attend the workouts out of a thirty-five member team. The sabers have incorporated a “Saber point system” created by coach Mike Miller, to hold members of the team accountable to attend weight training. Centrals point system makes it mandatory for all players to acquire 200 points before playing in any varsity football game. Although, this sounds like a good way to get people to go to weight training, there are flaws, and loopholes to get around the point system. For example, you can obtain points through getting good grades, or volunteer work, throughout, the community. These are all good things to strive for, but any football player or coach will tell you weight training is a must for almost any athlete. The question is how do they get more members to attend weight training? This is not the only problem circulating the Central DeWitt’s weight training program. Central DeWitt currently does a weight-training program called cross-fit. Cross-fit is the idea that you can combine power training and conditioning into one workout, which sounds like a great idea to most(2).
