They advise students on various issues concerning finances, school worries and anything else a high school senior is worrying about. They are there along the process to advise and be able to connect with a student in a way that leads the student to the college. I do not agree with the “bait and switch” that Coplin talks about in his article (B5.) Colleges should be truthful, he made clear in the same sentence yet, it is not a tactic that most schools use to lure students in. This ‘luring’ that they both included in their writings are just techniques schools may use occasionally.…
Chapter one of "The College Expierience" studies the relationship beween highschool and college, as well as the potential challenges of the transition. Many students fail to recognise the differences ahead of time and this leads to them not posessing enough "Grit" to make it to the end and receive a degree. The development of "Grit" starts the minute the student walks through the doors of their school of higher education. Throughout their experience, they must obtain a world-class skillset and mindset neccessary for success. Transitioning from highschool to college represents a change it schedule, responisiblity, and time management.…
Department of Education and Oregon Department of Education, CTSOs provide students recognition for the success in their competitive events and access to college scholarships. Business and state legislature are supporting CTSO’s at an increasing rate because of the large impact it is making. Students feel connected to a group, their school, and their organization. The little successes they have in their respective clubs can empower them to realize they are capable of larger successes including graduating high school, furthering their education beyond high school, and getting a job. CTSO’s provide hope to students in a meaningful way because it gives them a skill and not just a pep talk that they can change their…
My approach for students to gain these opportunities is reflected in the model I have established following support tools for student services by challenging students growth and development by challenging their educational and leadership opportunities. Also by guiding students to commit to their own educational experience, develop their own set of morals and beliefs and establish goals for their future career. Lastly, it is important provide students with community to establish their identity as emerging adults, provide a safe living and learning environment, and a supportive community for growth, development, and self-exploration. I believe that my personal philosophy will continue to adjust and develop as I continuously work with students but it is important to be willing to adjust my approach to Student Affairs as both the field and the students are continuously changing and evolving.…
