Basically, censorship is the suppression of words, images, or ideas, which are offensives. When people read something that offends them or they don’t agree with, they want to take away from everyone, so no one can read it. This is when you either banned or challenged a book. With that being said, there are so many books that have either been banned or challenged. For example, the book The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald, this book was banned by the Baptist College in South Carolina because of the language and the mere reference to sex. Also, another book that got banned was Upton Sinclair, The Jungle. It was banned for the dangerous socialist views expressed in the book, and also you get to see how the food industry actually works and what goes into our food. Many people didn’t like that so they wanted it gone and out of sight. (I got this information for the Banned Book Week website, on banned books that shaped America). This is how books has shaped the past few
