What is censorship?
Censorship is when written material is read and checked by another person. The censor deletes material that might exploit secrets and plans.

Why were letters read and censored?
The military was frightened that writing letters to loved ones would lead to sensitive material being leaked to enemy forces. Letters censorship was undertaken by regimental officers, the main purpose for letter censorship is to avoid mention of any military information, for example, operation details that the enemy might find valuable. This information includes locations, the number of troops criticism of superiors
