Censorship In Schools

Improved Essays
Censorship is the control of what people can say, hear, write, read, see, or do. Most of the time censorship occurs from the government. There is censorship everywhere, in schools, on television, and at the store. Students in schools aren’t being allowed to read certain books due to the fact that some parents and teachers think the books are too inappropriate or too mature for students. On the television certain things aren’t allowed, like nudity, curse words, or things involving death. There are some ways in which censorship can positively impact people or society, but majorly censorship has many consequences like lowering people’s right to freedom of speech.
Censorship in American’s schools generally focuses social and religious issues.

A complicated word isn't it, ‘censorship’. It comes from the Latin word ‘censere’ which means to give as one's opinion, something nonexistent in an Anthem society. Like many things, a world without censorship can be scary, but a world with too much of it, is a world with no meaning. Look at Anthem, the people who live in that society have no meaning, no life, no importance. Although many people can't imagine comparing the United States to an Anthem society, I believe the United States is an Anthem society because America has huge amounts of censorship when it comes to the press.…

The word censorship defines as blocking something from being heard, seen or read. I believe that there was a time that when censorship should be appropriate for the First Amendment. Although the First Amendment is about the free flow of information, ideas, and opinions that can be expressed in our society by responsible citizens, however, our government should be able to regulate the speech through the court consistently to determine if the government’s reason outweighs the importance of our democratic freedoms with ethical responsibilities. Censorship can also be an act of changing a message, including the change of deletion (complete removal of the message of the news or what was said), between the sender and the receiver.
