Cell Your Soul “Technology can be our best friend, and technology can also be the biggest party pooper of our lives. It interrupts our own story, interrupts our ability to have a thought or daydream, to imagine something wonderful because we’re too busy bridging our walk from the cafeteria back to the office on the cell phone.”- Steven Spielberg. Technology is a big part of society and whether you like it or not, it’s here to stay and will likely become more central to a functional society. However, the relationship between technologies and the individual can create a separation from society as well as those around you by decreasing your attention span, limiting social interaction, and creating language retardation and other developmental problems in young children.

Young kids are being exposed to technology earlier and earlier in their lives every year. Research shows however, that this is not necessarily a good thing and can create language retardation and mental illness in young children. In an article written by Katherine Bindley, Cris rowan, a pediatric occupational therapist states “We’re seeing very, very young children being given these devices to soothe them and entertain them, and it’s displacing the connection with the parent. We’re seeing escalating diagnoses of all sorts of mental illness in children.” This shows how technology creates a disconnect from society and children and parents even in the early stages of a child's life. While it might be an easy way to parent to sit your child in front of the tv or give them a tablet to play on, why not give them something to remember, like a good
