The last division I was assigned to is Bibb County Law Enforcement Center (L.E.C.), which is the local jail located downtown Macon. Before being exposed to the environment, I have heard so many bad stories about working in the prison system. It made me not want to land a job opportunity with the correctional systems for a starter position. My experience with the jail was a pleasant experience, especially since we were allowed to have our cellphones inside of the prison. Cellphones in prisons would be considered contraband as I learned in “Intro to Corrections.” I was also allowed to leave the building to go get lunch. Someone of the intake officers did this as well. There is a great deal of paperwork that is involved. The offender’s information must be entered into the system, such as their name, date of birth, address, telephone number, crimes committed, and the amount of time they will serve at the institution. Their photo or “mug shot” will be taken for identification purposes. Lastly, I was assigned to shadow the correctional officers on the K-block, which is the women block. I assisted the correctional officers prepare the meals in the kitchen to serve the women on the K-block and those in the medical department of the prison. After we finished feeding the inmates, we observed their behavior from the control room and responded to their request. The only thing that I hate about working at the prison is the fact that there are no windows. It makes it very depressing for the inmates
