Cell Phone Social Issues

Cellular phones led the advent of long distance communication. Initially, phones were rather basic; they really only had call functions and about 12 buttons. As contending companies saw the value of the cellular phone market, the cell phone underwent drastic changes. Cell phones began displaying screens, at first in black and white and then in full color, a variety of extended keyboards popped up and then texting became a large means of cell phone communication, e-mail and the rest of the internet was also available. Although this solved many issues when it came to checking work updates, communicating with distant relatives, and being a sure way to call for help in emergencies, the rise of the cellular phone also brought with it many issues. The most debated issue today is the lack of security and invasion of privacy cell phone users face with geo-tracking and hackers around the world. Cell phones also changed social dynamic and degraded the incessant user’s “in real life” social skills. Even dating has become a fly-by ritual where someone swipes from side to side to find a fleeting hookup. While watching people interact, if that is what you call it, many people keep their faces and fingers glued to their pocket screens, playing video games or texting other friends instead of enjoying the moment they are actually living. Again, many people do not see this lack of interaction as a problem. Nevertheless, marriages and long-standing relationships have been ruined because of it. This problem can be solved by simply putting the phone down and establishing real connections with the very tangible humans around
