Cell phones are already one of the most revolutionary products in history. In 10 short years, cell phones are a common thing in every corner of the planet. In some places there are more people with access to smartphones than to functioning plumbing. Cell phones are very useful and should not be banned or limited by the government or by schools. While technology may isolate people, they can be a great tool for communication and fuels creativity and our hunger for knowledge.
Others may argue that smartphones have many more problems than gains. They prevent development of social skills, have negative effects on the environment, make unhealthy obsessions (Document 8), cause human suffering, and isolate people. Other than the book and film, few inventions have been so impactful as modern tech. The internet is the largest library of knowledge in history with trillions of pieces of information available to you. This has made education much more improved as we can have a better understanding of history. This may lessen our memory for facts but that is no longer a necessity. Art is accessible for everyone, inspiring new innovative ideas. Social media has let people spread their idea, even the minorities get heard. It allows a much better platform to spread ideas as it is not as controlled as television. Black Lives Matter and other social issues have had light shone on them due to technology. Sylvie's story would not have been realized if not for our level of connection (Document 10). It has the power to change lives for the better. In my own experience, I have used this library to my advantage. I learn as much about history, geography, and literature from the internet as I do in school.
