21st Century
There has been lost of change throughout history in America but the 21st century has impacted the United States more than any other century has. The 21st century is from 2001-2100. There have been tons and tons of things that have changed America in this century and it has just begun, not to long ago. That shows how impactful this century will be. Some things that have happened that have impacted America the most are 9/11 terrorist attack in 2001, Barack Obama 's election in 2008, first IPhone being released in 2007, a woman running for president in 2008, and the social media site that will change everything about the way people in America comunicate; being created in 2004. At “8:19 am – Flight attendants aboard Flight 11 alert ground personnel that the plane has been hijacked; American Airlines notifies the FBI.”.(History.com,History.com Staff). 19 Terrorist from al-Qaeda hijacked four different planes. They flew two of the four planes into the World Trade Center in New York killing 2,606 people. One plane into the pentagon killing 125. The last plane crashed into an empty field killing 44 people including the four hijackers. “The terrorist attack of September 11, 2001, however, dramatically demonstrated the vulnerability of the nation’s transportation system to terrorist infiltration and attack.(Geoffrey Campbell,14). After 9/11 the Airport security went up and made it 100x harder to get onto a plane. They made new laws about what you can and can 't bring on the plane, and made it a big hassle for traveling to keep everyone safe. That wasn 't the only thing that was impacted, thousands of families had to deal with lost family members that they could never say bye to. In 2004 the internet was introduced to Facebook a social media site that millions of people have already used. Facebook is a site where you can meet new people and keep in contact with old friends and family. Facebook is not just for the young and it 's not just for the old. According to PewResearch Center 71% of online adults use facebook. That is a really large percent, that is 172154282.2 people in just America. More than 100 Billion people are active users on facebook in the whole world. That is an unbelievable amount of people to be on one site. The downfall that it has had on Americans is that it is taking away from people being people. Instead of people interacting in person they do it over the computer and stay inside. Americans spend most of their time on technology and wasting time instead of getting things they need to get done, done. After Facebook social media became super popular. There has been lots of big sites some of the big ones are Flicker, Bebo, Twitter, Pinterest, ASK.fm, Snapchat, and Vine. These are just some of many that came after Facebook that is leading people to waist time.
In the 21st century lots has happened. The crazy part is there is 84 more years till this century is over. We are 16 years in and this century has changed America the most so who knows what is ahead of us. History is only to be made, and technology is only to be more advanced.
