Cell Phones Should Be Used In Education

Cell phones have been used all around the world for several decades. The first multi use cell phone was invented in 1992. These devices are what we now know as smartphones. Smartphones are a form of cellular device that has multiple functions that can be anything from the ability to call to the ability to calculate equations. The use of these smartphones has increased exponentially in very little time. A statistic page, from Pew Internet, shows that in 2007 over 71% of teens have a cell phone (Lenhar). Another thing that every teen has in their life is school. A very important question is how do cell phones and school fit together. While some of the effects from having cell phones in classrooms can be negative, cell phones should be used in education systems for several reasons. …show more content…
In the current education system, teachers use different activities to help students understand the concepts they are trying to teach. These activities can be from filling out an assignment to playing board games. Cell phones are getting very technologically advanced in they way that they can fill in roles to aid all types of activities. Teachers all around the country are starting to realize that cell phones are assisting the student understand and complete the content they bring to class. A quote from a specific teacher states, “Also, many cell phones now have Internet capability, built-in calculators, and memories able to hold entire books. For schools with limited technologies available to students, cell phones mimic the computers that the classroom may lack.” which in other words is saying that cell phones are bringing to the classroom what the school cannot provide (Shaw). The cell phones that students are bringing are actually benefiting the classroom, because they providing the tools that the school cannot provide
