The cell phone has singlehandedly dominated human communication in recent years. Technological advancements in cellular technology have revolutionized how we interact and communicate with one another. However, unforeseen repercussions of the overwhelming proliferation of cell phones include fatal consequences because of people using their phones while they are driving. It is now the responsibility of the tech companies that market cell phones, as well as law enforcement, government, and society as a whole to introduce legislation, technology, and deterrent measures in order to combat the exceptionally dangerous results of people using their phones while driving. It has been clearly demonstrated that distracted driving has made the roads exponentially more deadly. Yet many drivers are slow to implement the personal change that is needed because of the addictive nature of cell phone use, the lack of clear and coherent laws against cell phone use while driving, and the lack of technology to prevent cell phones being used while driving.
The data figure provided by the infographic from TextingandDrivingSafety.com, which states that in 2011, at least twenty-three percent of auto collisions involved cell phones, demonstrates the need for legislation to be implemented in order to deter people from texting while distracted by cell phones.
