“20 percent of American third graders have owned a phone and that number jumped to 80 percent by middle school” (Sirs, LaCasse). These statistics can be determined in one word, safety. This word seems to be losing it’s meaning in a new trend called, cell phone bans. This problem is important to discuss because through banning cell phones, schools are putting students safety at risk through not having emergency contact. Also, some students will argue that their education is not as fulfilling, rather than if they could use technology to complete work. So, schools should not have the capability to ban student’s cell phones because it puts their safety at risk, and stifles their learning abilities (Smartphone Bans, LaCasse)! …show more content…
Through common sense, something that ensures someone's safety should not be taken away nor banned for that matter. Previous research has shown that 20 percent of third graders have cell phones, and 80 percent of middle schoolers have a cellphone (Smartphone Bans, LaCasse). This shows that a good amount of students have cell phones, and through the schools banning them, they’re disobeying the parents efforts to keep their children
