“In data from 37000 college students, narcissistic personality traits rose just as fast as obesity from 1980 to present, with the shift pronounced for women” (Twenge). Having been influenced by the stars they see on television and through social media, Generation Z has grown more narcissistic and spoiled; modeling celebrities such as the Kardashians who have no perceived notion on the value of money and entitlement. This rise in a sense of entitlement corresponds directly to the teen fascination with celebrity idols and their behavior portrayed in the media. “Using the Narcissistic Personality Inventory (NPI) to assess the degree of narcissism among celebrities. Results indicate that celebrities are significantly more narcissistic than MBA students and the general population” (Young, Pinsky). This study provides concrete evidence to the correlation between narcissism and celebrities. “The eight operations most commonly done in the teenage population are rhinoplasty, ear surgery, reduction mammoplasty, surgery for asymmetric breasts, excision of gynecomastia, augmentation mammoplasty, chin augmentation, and suction assisted lipoplasty” (McGrath). This rise in popularity of plastic surgery for young adults is a result of the images of the celebrities they see and worship daily. Stars such as Kylie Jenner with her large and obvious injected lips, breasts, and butt are the inspiration for thousands of teenagers. Teenagers of Generation Z are risking the complication with going under the knife to look like their favorite stars. “When girls are bombarded daily - if not hourly - with media images of thin and gorgeous female stars, it leaves many parents wondering whether it may push their daughters toward poor body image and eventually an eating disorder” (Lawrence). By promoting a body image that is unattainable for many, celebrities have caused teens to deal with poor mental health concerning the way they appear. Not only is poor mental health affecting these individuals, but a chain reaction causes many of those to develop eating disorders such as anorexia in an attempt to shed weight to look like their favorite stars. The image that celebrities are distributing to the masses is harming the
