Improved Essays
How do you celebrate Thanksgiving? Did you know it's probably different than how The Early Americans celebrated Thanksgiving. Recently I learned that I celebrate different then they Early Americans and some of my Friends and their families. The Early Americans were less fortunate them people today and they didn’t use forks to eat their meal and they certainly didn’t have an oven to cook their food. I got a chance to sit down with Grace Baggerly and talk to her about the similarities and differences between our Thanksgiving celebrations. We don’t do much things in the same way but we do both get together with our families and eat all together and have some cherishing moments. Another similarity that we both have is that both of our families serve turkey and ham as the main meat that we eat that night. We did have a lot of differences too, for instance, my family likes to fly kites after our supper and her …show more content…
We both talked about the similarities and differences for each of our Thanksgiving celebrations. We both leave go somewhere else to celebrate with the family we haven’t seen in awhile and we also play with our cousins while the food is being prepared. She helps set the table and place the food where it needs to go but at my Thanksgiving dinner I help cook the food not set it. Jessica is still at the “little kids table” but I haven’t sat there in two years. I’m pretty happy I don’t have to sit at a card table in the television room away from everyone else sits any more. I wonder where Jessica’s “kids table” is at. In her family the guys sit down and watch football while waiting for the food to be finished, but the guys in my family sit outside and talk about stuff going on in their lives. They mostly just talk about their kids though. I have realized That most people don’t do the same things as my family on Thanksgiving, I guess my family is just old

We compared it with the traditions the early americans did and what we found was totally different from what happens now. One thing that was different they do not watch football, ride golf carts, go karts or anything like that. One thing that was similar was we spent time with our families and friends and something they did that we did not do was eat dinner with the Indians. Something else that was also similar was we have turkey, ham, stuffing, and pie and other foods too they also had cranberry sauce, mashed potatoes and pumpkin pie they also had vegetables like beans, lettuce, spinach,…

Every year on Thanksgiving break I have gone to my grandparents house to stay for the week. For me this is important because my grandparents live a good ways away and I barely get to see them. This became a tradition when I moved away from where they live because that's when our other traditions ended like on wednesdays we used to meet somewhere and eat dinner but we can’t do that any more so we thought that Thanksgiving break is a good time to go see them because we have off school and they can get off work. The whole time we are up there we laugh cook and have fun together.…

In America they would gather to celebrate Thanksgiving and they will do so at the dinner table. The meal, with roots in the ancient traditions of harvest festivals and in the religious fervor of the Puritans who settled here, has grown into a secular feast of abundance. Whether taking place in Duluth, Minnesota or at the Bagram Airfield in Afghanistan, the American tradition is to roast a turkey and eat it along with a slew of side dishes, all in the company of family and friends. So here’s the thing: while it is an iconic food, no one would argue that a roast turkey is the American national dish – turkey on multigrain for lunch aside. Plopping a turkey on an overladen table is reserved almost solely for this day.…

My family is loud, crazy and not afraid to voice their opinions so there is always drama at every dinner or family event. I chose to write on this because I never payed attention to detail or interactions at these dinners like why the women cook? Or why it is important that we are all together.…

We are each gone all day to either work or school, so once we’re all home we eat supper together and spend a couple of hours just relaxing and watching television or something. Family dinner has never been the kind of thing where children eat in their room and ignore the parents. My mom and dad have always insisted that we all eat together with the television off. After dinner, my mom and I clear the table and then we just spend time together. This is a ritual that I am grateful for.…

My visit to Virginia Beach for thanksgiving with my Filipino friend Jimmy and his family, was an intercultural experience that showed me why it’s important to understand and appreciate different cultures. It is widely understood that different cultures have their own way of communicating, living, as well as embracing certain values, beliefs, and practices. Having the opportunity to experience culture other than my own was amazing and gratifying. My trip to Virginia Beach all started with a phone call from my friend saying that I needed to hurry up and get to VA before his family started serving dinner. However, due to my flight getting delayed multiple times, his family had to make some adjustments to their thanksgiving schedule.…
