As a graduate of Abraham Lincoln High School, I took interest in the communications department of CBCSD in my independent studies class my senior year. My experiences through independent study and a marketing elective taken my senior year solidified my passion for communications and have guided my career path to this very day. I have dabbled in nearly all aspects of communication at some point or another - from video editing and producing during an administrative assistant job in college to social media and project management at Bozell, it has been my goal to become as immersed as possible in marketing and to learn all that there is to know. Because of this, I am self-taught and proficient in the Adobe Creative Suite, Final Cut Pro and photography,

Before my current employment I was at a crossroad. I was 23 years old and nearing the end of a bachelor’s degree with no idea what to do next. I was constantly being asked what my plans were “after Wayne State”. I had no idea. I assumed I would find something I enjoyed, and psychology offered many options.…

Unless you’ve lived under a rock for the last few years, chances are, you’ve heard about CBD oil (or cannabidiol oil, which is an extract derived from the cannabis plant, sans the psychoactive ingredient, Tetrahydrocannabinol or THC). In fact, this substance is largely touted as somewhat of a “miracle drug,” with applications ranging from cardiovascular health to fighting cancer. Perhaps the most widely known use for CBD oil has been the treatment of seizures and other neurological disorders – I’m sure you have come across a video (or two) while browsing your Facebook that shows the incredible, and often instantaneous results of these patients ingesting CBD oil. With so many uses and obvious relief of symptoms for many people, it can be tempting…

As a child, I was fascinated by the bookmakers at the end of our road. I daydreamed about the magical work going on behind those darkened windows to bring great story books to us kids… My eventual enlightenment over what really went on behind the bookmaker’s window did little to dampen my fascination with the power of words. I studied Communications, at Goldsmiths, majored in journalism, landed a job as a current affairs reporter, and then decided that crime reporting wasn’t for me. I was more at home with inspirational stories about people who did positive things and with creating PR opportunities by finding the story behind the story.…

Professor Murphy teaches a course entitled Dynamics of Communication in Union County College which focuses on communication as a process and human relationships. He has double major in Speech Communication and Theatre. He is approachable, open-minded, encouraging, helpful, and forthright. He taught the Dynamics of Communication course extraordinarily well and he truly captured the “dynamics” of communication. I have never experienced a professor who entirely maximized the fifty-five minutes of class that involved multiple activities such as conducting interviews, delivering speeches, group and partner discussions, changing of seats, skits, and many more.…

Second semester of senior seminar consisted of a more hands on approach compared to the first semester of senior seminar. Second semester’s final project gave us a wide range of options for what our project could be. All that was asked of us was that our project engaged in the process, power, education or involvement of communication; in some way, shape or form, communication had to be involved. We were allowed to choose between various forms of work, ranging from a research paper to public relations events to audio/video productions, in order to produce what we believed was the most effective proposal to share our message. For my final project I decided to create an audio/production piece by constructing a reflexive documentary.…

As a newcomer to the field, I understand that I must continue to pursue professional development in this rapidly changing field. Learning is a lifelong process and this deep and evolving field requires keeping up with current trends and best practices. I am and have always been, committed to growing professionally. Presently, I am weighing my options and considering going forward with the masters program after I complete the 24 credits required for the associate certificate. Naively, I did not understand the depth of knowledge I would need as a media specialist and it can feel overwhelming.…

Growing up in a fast paced city has shown me that life really does flash right before our eyes. Having a thirst for knowledge, and always being eager to read books made it easy for me to dive into my schoolwork and take all that I could from it. Whether it was asking my teachers questions about their professions or their other jobs after school, I was always interested in learning more about people that were actively participating in my potential future workforce. I wanted to get to know them and dissect what made them successful, so one day I could follow in their footsteps. My interest in the study of communications began at a young age reading and examining screenplays, prompts, and novels in my grandpa’s library, as he was part of the Screen…

I am interested in being part of the Persuasive Communication Program because I know communication is an invaluable skill that is important in all aspects of life. After college, I plan to continue my education by attending business school, law school, or both. I am passionate about studying business and law because I want to make a difference in the world and believe I can do this by starting companies that change people’s lives and representing people who don’t have a voice. I am an active participant in class and hold leadership roles in practically everything I am involved in. I hope to gain the raw skills of persuasive communication and to increase my level of confidence while I am speaking to a group.…

I’ve worked my entire adult life helping others. Starting when I was just 19 years old I began working at a group home people with developmental disabilities and chronic mental health issues. The clients in these homes were often placed straight from secure psychiatric units and had unpleasant, and at times, criminal histories. This is the environment where I first found my strengths. I could easily engage with people without regard for their sordid history and help them work through their own thoughts.…

I got the incredible opportunity to intern at Telemundo New Orleans. As a member of PRSSA I attended a networking night last semester, and got to talk to a lot of people. Telemundo caught my attention, so when I stopped and talk, I asked for information and they told me they send me an email. Some weeks later I got an email from a Loyola student that worked there, saying they wanted to talk an offer me an internship if I was interested. That same Friday I went to an interview and got it.…

To form opinions about medical marijuana, or even recreational marijuana, I feel you have to know the history of how it became illegal. It all started in the early 1900’s just after the Mexican Revolution; Mexican immigrants started coming into the US into Texas and Louisiana. Since they started coming in, of course, they brought their customs with them. At this time cannabis was used for medicines and a relaxant. Mexican immigrants called the plant “marihuana” and since Americans weren’t familiar with the term, they became frightened.…

After visiting a wide range of colleges, it is obvious that Emerson is the best choice for honing my skills. Multimedia Arts is the use of computers and other digital or electronic means to design and create visual effects for items such as, video games, commercials, presentations, brochures, and flyers for any type of company or business. My thematic core title allowed me to be flexible and branch out away from traditional degree programs available at the institution. It also allowed me to engage in more than one genre of art form such as public speaking, drawing and sketching, and video and audio. My thematic core includes course groupings in communication, art, business management and marketing, and child development. The communication courses that I have taken helped me participate actively with others, develop critical thinking skills, and…
