Stress
For the purpose of this essay I will define and explain what stress is, how it occurs, the signs and symptoms of stress, ways that it can be alleviated in the workplace and also how stress can influence your tolerance levels.
Stress is an individual response to a perceived inability to cope. It is different for everyone. Some stress is good for you as it gets the adrenaline going and also helps to get people motivated.
Stress is a physical response to events that might contradict our balanced daily lives in some way. When you realise danger is near whether it’s real or not the body goes rapidly high through a process called the fight or flight action. giving a presentation to a potential client. There are certain things that can cause stress and they are called stressors. We think of stressors being negative and in fact they are the opposite. However, anything that puts high demands on you or forces you to adjust can be stressful. e.g. when a manager asks you to finish something before they go home that can trigger stress from being overworked.
Underworked is another trigger of stress which is the opposite of overworked this is where you get a little bit of work each day and for the rest of it, it is all about dragging to the end of the work day. When this occurs there is a lack of motivation to get anything done and as a result of this so stress occurs within the individual of the organisation. There are certain factors that can contribute to increase stress and they come from the external factors also Stress is self-generated for example, when worrying excessively about something that may or may not happen, or have an irrational or pessimistic thoughts about life. Eustress occurs when the gap between what one has and what one wants is slightly pushed, but not overwhelmed. The goal is not too far out of reach but is still slightly more than one can handle. This fosters challenge and motivation since the goal is in sight. The function of challenge is to motivate a person toward improvement and a goal.
