Willy is displaying his love for the future. Willy said, “I see great things for you kids, I think your troubles are over. But remember, start big and you’ll end big”, (64). Willy was clearly happy for the future. To the point that he finally thought that his family's troubles were over. Willy was very excited for his family's future and in the book he showed that he hoped his children would not end up in a dead end life.
This point of view is very convincing, however, Willy never talked about his own future, he only talked about his son’s future. Willy said, “Too young entirely, Biff. You want to watch your schooling first. Then when you’re all set, there’ll be plenty of girls for a boy like you”, (28) This is a quote talking about Biff’s future. Nowhere in this quote does he talk about his own future. Even later in the book he was still hoping for his son’s future. That sign is being calm before death. This does not reflect at all what happened before Willy committed suicide. The narrator and Willy says, “in an uncontrolled outburst: I am not a dime a dozen! I am Willy, and you are Biff Loman!”, (132). Willy was clearly angry and wild at the moment. Being wild is the opposite of being calm. There was no way the family could have been able to see and stop the suicide. They couldn’t have done anything without seeing that Willy all of sudden became calm, because he was never calm.
The argument that was presented is very persuasive. However there is one part of the book where Willy is calm before his death.Willy tells Linda, “I just want to get settled down, Linda. Let me sit alone for a little,” (134). Willy is clearly calm as he was not yelling. It is also important to note that this takes place close to his suicide.
