Causes Of Volunteering At The Soup Kitchen

Improved Essays
While volunteering at both the soup kitchen and the food bank there were a few difficult situations that occurred. One of the main rules at the soup kitchen if that the doors close at 7 pm no matter what. There was an issue of people showing up after we closed and wanting to get dinner. Sadly , we had to turn them away and a few people got upset. Thankfully, none of the people got aggressive after being turned away. Another problem at the soup kitchen I noticed was people under the influence of drugs or alcohol. These people spilled food, drinks, and a few even started arguments with others. I mainly cleaned up the messes they made and the supervisor handled the more unruly people. Due to my schedule I wasn't able to volunteer at the soup kitchen

To begin, in my community I have come to respect those who help others in food pantries and in special needs schools through personal experience. One day my mom and I took a new route to my grandparents house and we came across the RCS Food Pantry. The next day we pulled up and talked to this sweet lady and she said that we could help package food for the homeless, so every Monday we would go and help out, it was a touching experience to see the look the homeless gave us when we gave them the food. One man I talked to was in the military and wasn't able to get a job because of his PTSD, it was sad the way he ended up but I vowed to help in the ways I knew how.…

I am truly honored as being a nominee for the Easton Chapter National Honor Society. The standards that must be proven to be nominated by this prestigious society are an example of the hard work and dedication I have exemplified in school. Throughout my years of schooling, I have tried my hardest to get good grades, while also demonstrating the characteristics that make up the National Honor Society; they are leadership, service, and character. While I have exhibited all three throughout my educational career, I feel that my service characteristic stands out above the rest. Service can mean many things, but to me, it means helping someone perform a task they can’t complete themselves, sacrificing your time, and assisting the less fortunate.…

Journal 2 This week I was able to do a small site visit when I turned in my paperwork. Unfortunately, I was not able to see where they kept the children because my background check and other important information had not yet been processed, but I was still able to get a good idea of what volunteering at the St. Louis Crisis Nursery will be like. When I first pulled up, I was very surprised at the building the nursery was in. I was expecting a fun environment which would be filled with toys scattered around in the grass and playground equipment. However, the building was old and the neighborhood was not in a better part of town which surprised me.…

I’ve always heard about the many families they help there, as it was getting closer to thanksgiving, I wanted to see how I could help. People communicate with other people every day, but communicating effectively is what matters. I have been developing my communication skills throughout the semester, and decided to put them to the test.…

The STNA I was shadowing continued to degrade this man telling him he was nasty because he could not swallow his already puréed food correctly.…
