The issue of global warming and climate change is one that affects every person living on this planet. As a global society, we are responsible for ensuring that our planet and our resources are sustained, not only for the benefit of our own lives, but for the lives of generations to come. The increasing rate of climate change and depletion of natural resources are a consequence of human negligence, and it is up to us to rectify this problem.

These questions will be answered through research and used to create a solution to the problem of unsustainability in packaging through Graphic Design.
1.5. Methodologies
To find the solution to the problem of unsustainable packaging, one must first have an in-depth understanding of the packaging industry itself. This will include the history, and current state of the packaging industry in South Africa, the influence of Graphic Design on packaging, as well as the social perception of food packaging and its environmental impact. Information will be collected through thorough literature review and primary research. Quantitative and qualitative data will be collected through interviews and surveys – these will give an indication of society’s current state of mind regarding food packaging and its disposal. Literature review will again be used to gather information about alternative packaging materials that could be used as affordable alternatives to the current (non-biodegradable)
