Why Do People Start Smoking Cigarettes

Eighty billion dollars is approximately how much money Americans spend on cigarettes each year. With more than two hundred and ninety three billion cigarettes being bought in America alone, more cigarettes are being sold than ever before and at a higher price. Smoking cigarettes has become more and more of a normalcy in America and other countries throughout the years with almost fifteen billion cigarettes being sold each day around the world. It is safe to say that cigarettes impact almost every American either by smoking cigarettes personally, or by inhaling someone else’s second hand smoke. Some people wonder what causes others to smoke cigarettes and why they would even start smoking them in the first place. The answer to their question isn’t very easy to answer because not everyone starts smoking cigarettes for the same reason. Some younger individuals start smoking cigarettes to be “cool” or to fit in because they constantly see their family, friends, and celebrities smoking cigarettes all of the time. Some other people may start smoking cigarettes to help them to lose weight. The nicotine found in cigarettes can be used as an appetite suppressant, so individuals will smoke a cigarette and skip a meal so that they aren’t taking in as many calories as before, which results in their bodies losing weight.
