Each year at least 3.5 million cases of skin cancer are reported and diagnosed and almost 90% is caused of UV light usually from the sun. Skin cancer is one of the most common cancers in the United States. Skin cancer has always been a very important for Floridians, due to the fact of sun exposure. The radiation from the sun is the main cause of skin cancers; this exposure causes anyone likely to get skin cancer. The risk is greater for some than others, such as, people with sensitive, or freckled skin, lights eyes, and blond or red hair. Skin cancer can even be passed down through family history, having frequent sunburns, or even working outside on a daily basis without proper protection. Squamous skin cancer can also show up in the digestive tract, lungs, and other areas of the body. Regular exposure to sunlight or radiation also plays a huge role in considering the fact that this does a lot of damage to people with light skin color, light eyes, or even light hair. Some people have even experienced this type of cancer after have chemical exposure, having many x-rays, or even in just old age. Although this cancer occurs in only 20% of cancer cases, almost 90% of head and neck cancers are due to these factors. The symptoms that should be looked out for is a growing bump that has a rough surface with red patches surrounding it, maybe an inch around. Some people even have discovered a sore that is not able to heal can be a sign of this type of cancer. There have been many different methods discovered in treating this cancer including excision which is the removal of the actual piece of skin that has been infected with the cancer and then stiching the skin back together. There is medication using skin cream that contains imiquimod for cancer that is discovered early and has not penetrated the skin, and is still settled on the surface. There is surgery which removes the layer of the skin that is infected, therapy which uses light, Cryosurgery which freezes the cancer cells that is supposed to kill them. If none of these methods work, doctors then consider radiation to removes the cells that has spread through organs and lymph
