Outside of those cities are what defines the poor in India. There are slums with millions of people who have next to no access to basic utilities we take for granted in the United States. Barely any of the people who live there are employed and if they do have a job it 's not on a wage or salary, regular labor to earn a small payout. The reason these people can 't attain real jobs is because they are illiterate and they simply don 't have the money to pay for a serious education. Over 59 million children in India don 't have access to a public school and those children will become an adult who will it hard to find a job without an education. 100% of the United States ' children have access to a public school which is why our average income is high for the world. Governments around the world, have made it difficult to address the subject of poverty, as it is a problem you would not to have and would want to fix it as soon as you could. India has an extremely large population, which makes it hard to set forth and take action to fix poverty in their country. There are currently 8 programs effective in India to alleviate poverty. One of the most popular programs is the "National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (NREGA)" which was enforced 2006. The act guarantees 100 days of paid work to people in rural areas of India, and has made a significant boost of the incomes in the rural areas. The programs show a will of the Indian government to try to reduce poverty, but it hasn 't fixed all of
