The two topics that I have chosen for our next “Cause” essay are, the pandemic of homelessness, and the irrationality of our legal system charging minors as adults. First, the pandemic of homelessness effects millions of individuals, and families across America, and the globe every day. The causes include, but are not limited to, lack of affordable housing, living below the poverty line, unemployment, substance abuse, divorce, and the death of a loved one. The severity of this issue is sometimes not realized by those whom have not experienced being homeless, in some shape or form. The only legislation called, the McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act passed in 1987 only responds to the symptoms, and does not address the causes, or solutions.
