Obesity is excessive body weight that accumulates over time from being overweight. When a person consumes more energy than they can expend it causes health problems and can lead to obesity. Obesity is defined 20% above the ideal weight of a person’s height, gender, and age. Many people are affected with this nutritional disorder. The U.S. is comprised of 31% adult men, 36% adult women, and 17% of children with obesity: obesity is the most common in American teens and children. There are many things that can cause this nutritional disorder such as: Cushing’s syndrome. Hypothyroidism, neurological disturbances, certain drugs, physical activity, eating habits, and cultural factors.
