Obesity in America is considered an epidemic. There are many contributing factors to obesity (both childhood and adult), such as biological, environmental, social, or economic factors. The growing level of obesity is believed to hold numerous health and economic consequences. According to the surgeon general and the National Institutes of Health, overweight and obese individuals are at increased risk for hypertension, dyslipidemia, stroke, gout, and certain types of cancer, psychological disorders, and other ailments. Let me discuss some of the effects of Obesity; Primarily it causes high blood pressure; due to extra weight on wrist which can raise the heart rate and limit our body’s ability to circulate blood to the heart through cells . The third effect of obesity is sleep disorder called sleep apnea which causes people to stop breathing, interrupts sleep during the night and causes sleepiness during the day.

However, Physical inactivity or a decrease in physical activity at work and home are major contributing factor to obesity. This day’s life of low-income people depends on consumption of unhealthy food typically fast food. Their life depends on consuming fast food that has high fat and saturated fat, frequent snacking high energy foods and drinking sweetened beverages which have high calories. If calorie consumptions significantly increased; then physical activity must have increased to prevent the prevalence of obesity. Lack of physical activity can be due to watching TV for an extended period, playing video game nonstop, and computer usage.
