Flavorings like monosodium glutamate, that would make the junk food taste a little bit sweet, a little bit salty, cheesy and chocolatey things like that makes the food attractive to buyers and palatable to our taste. According to Guyenet (2011), many human studies have shown that people eat more food at a sitting if the food is higher palatability than if it is lower palatability. This is true even if palatability is manipulated using substances that have little or no impact on the nutritional quality of the food, including saccharin (sweet), monosodium glutamate (savory) and herbs/spices. Furthermore according to Cooper (2015): The reasons why we crave for junk food: (1) food pleasure is something that we get from a combination of caloric stimulation by micronutrients – Sensory factors the most contribute to pleasure are salty taste, sweet taste, umami taste – from monosodium glutamate, and orosensation. (2) Many of our favourite food are supernatural combinations of salt, fat and sugar. Furthermore, according Fernstorm, et al. (2000) Monosodium glutamate is the sodium salt of glutamic acid. The above mentioned physical and mental results can be a valid proof that junk food should be banned in the kiosks of Silliman University. According to the survey conducted, 33% of the student, which is the majority, claimed that the kinds of junk food the students want to be banned are the chips, followed by 31% of the students claiming that they wanted soft drinks to be banned, while the minority with 18% of the students wanted to ban candies, followed by 12% claimed to ban chocolates and 6% of the respondents suggested pansit canton as a part of the junk
