Incontinence, whether it is urinary, fecal or both, is common and affects the older population. Incontinence is also the result of other diseases and conditions that affect the urinary, gastro-intestinal, and neurological system of a person. Incontinece has a physical, psychological, social, and financial effects on the person. Skin problems such as incontinence-associated dermatitis, pressure ulcers, and fungal infections can arise from incontinence. Too much moisture and long exposure to feces, urine, perspiration, etc. can lead to skin irriation, inflammation, and bigger skin problems. Nurses have a big role in preventing these conditions.
